Why we are NOT holding the Muslim FunFest in 2013 | Click to Join the Muslim FunFest Mailing List | ||||
Spearheaded by Dar-us-Salaam and one of its subsidiary projects The Muslim Link, the Muslim FunFest grew at an astounding rate.
Muslims from all over Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and yes even as far as New York came to enjoy the festivities. And boy oh boy did they have fun! From camel rides to helicopters, hurricanes and roundups, moon bounces and zip-lines, the FunFest was a 6 hour, scream-your-heart-out extravaganza. But it wasn't just kids who were screaming. A bazaar featuring over 110 vendors certainly brought delight to every peruser, patron, and shopaholic alike. And of course, we cannot forget the food. With three different ethnic menus to please the crowd and mouthwatering desserts to satisfy the biggest sweet tooth, the Muslim FunFest was the place to be.
And all of this tawfeeq is not attributed to any particular individual, Masjid, or organization, but it is from Allah alone. Alhamdulillah!
However in the life of every individual, every mission, and every organization, there comes a time of opportunity, a game-changing fork in the road. This year the Muslim FunFest, more specifically its administrator Dar-us-Salaam, has come face to face with such an opportunity.
Dar-us-Salaam's mission is to establish a model community that embodies the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, serves the needs of all Muslims, and shares the beautiful message of Islam to all people. Over the past 15 years, Dar-us-Salaam has founded many projects; each one designed to fulfill a specific need for the general Muslim population. Some of them you may have heard of: Al-Huda School, an accredited full-time pre-k to 12th grade Islamic school; The Muslim Link, a nationally recognized newspaper distributed all across the DC metro area; and of course the Muslim FunFest.
Recent years of growth has led to Dar-us-Salaam outgrowing its current facility located in College Park, Maryland. With no room left to expand, the community was placed in a tough spot. Operations stagnated and many projects suffered. As a result, a campaign began to look for a new location to house all of the community's projects.
Eventually, by the Mercy from Allah, a suitable location was found in Howard County, Maryland. The property, offering more than 66 acres of land, possesses the space and infrastructure needed for Dar-us-Salaam to build a community and education campus that will serve Muslims for the long term future in shaa Allah.
Currently, Dar-us-Salaam and all of its projects are dedicating every resource available to raise the funds necessary to purchase this land (an estimated $10 million is needed). Due to this monumental challenge, a scarcity of resources, and an upcoming deadline for when the purchase must be made, Dar-us-Salaam will be unable to organize a Muslim FunFest for this year.
We understand the huge disappointment this will be to all of our children, our parents, families, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who look forward to the carnival every year. For the sake of long-term success and prosperity, it is sometimes necessary to make a short-term sacrifice. It is our firm belief that the acquisition of this property will allow Dar-us-Salaam to continue its operations, expand its projects, and improve the quality of each service it offers, including the Muslim FunFest.
